The North Ipswich Railway Workshop complex is one of the most important rail-related heritage sites in Queensland and is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register. The property operator, Queensland Rail, required a 3D record of the century old site to create a digital twin for a virtual reality museum in the future.

It was important that the entirety of the historic features including the buildings and workshops (interior, exterior, machinery, equipment and other contents) were thoroughly recorded in a manner that provides a platform for their future interpretation.

Orion was part of the Consultant Team selected to perform Terrestrial LiDAR scanning, photogrammetry and traditional survey. This information was used to build a digital twin of the site for use in Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Systems for future museum operations.

Aura Holdings develop luxury retirement communities in the South-East Queensland market. Aura’s Kingsford Terrace Community is a multi-stage development, providing a mix of luxury retirement living options.

Orion was involved with survey works to assist with design of the Mitchell Building stage of the development, undertaking Detail and Identification Survey.

Moving to the construction phase, Orion was engaged by Hutchinson Builders to undertake bulk earthworks setout, building construction setout, as-constructed survey and easement survey for the project.

Our team expertly managed the relationship with the Building Contractor and site trades to ensure all setout works was completed as per the project schedule to ensure successful delivery of the project.

The 3.5km trail from Logan Village to Yarrabilba in Queensland, will be built on a disused rail spur line and is flanked mostly by natural bushland. It is estimated that the trail will attract local users and day-trippers and will develop stronger physical connections between Logan Village and Yarrabilba. It is a critical off-road link, providing recreation and active transport opportunities for school children and workers.

The Orion survey team provided a full detail and contour survey of the project area to assist the design team. The project covered various terrain and areas of thick regrowth. Our team liaised with key project consultants and stakeholders to ensure the Detail Survey captured all elements required for Design and Vegetation Assessment.

The project comprises of 16 townhouses within a Community Title Scheme, located within close proximity to Griffith University.

D&C Real Estate Group engaged Orion as the Cadastral Surveyor for the project, preparing Disclosure Plans for Sales Contracts, the Building Format Subdivision plan and management of the Plan Sealing Application for Development Approval Compliance with Brisbane City Council.

Our clear and proactive communication with the Project Builder, Project Manager and Client ensured the survey and titling process ran smoothly and delivered on time.

Brisbane Markets Limited facilitates more than $1.6 billion worth of fresh produce trade annually. The Brisbane Markets operates on 77 hectares of land at Rocklea incorporating retail stores, commercial offices and industrial warehousing.

Orion Spatial Solutions acts as a surveying consultant to Brisbane Markets Limited, providing titling advice and undertaking cadastral surveys for reconfigurations, easements and leases.

Orion has also undertaken engineering surveys for construction of new refrigerated industrial warehouses and underground service location surveys to map ever changing service assets of the site.

We also provide Spatial solutions to Brisbane Markets to help undertake condition assessment of their vast building assets and quantify existing building materials for accurate insurance coverage.


Pacific Fair Shopping Centre

Pacific Fair is the Gold Coast’s premier shopping centre. Originally developed in the 1970’s, the centre underwent major redevelopment in 2015. The centre also acts as a major transport interchange for the Gold Coast’s public transport system. 

Orion were engaged by Calibre Group’s Structural Engineering team to assist with ongoing design and remedial works associated with maintaining the complex.

To assist with management of the asset, Orion provided detail surveys, precise monitoring surveys, monthly 3D laser scans, precise leveling and more complex joint monitoring. Orion also undertook Bathymetric Survey of the canal adjacent to the site to assist with Geotechnical and Structural assessment of revetment walls.

Our range of services provided valuable data to assist the structural engineering team’s condition assessment of the complex.

Sphere Southport Living is a high-density multi-staged residential development. The project comprises of a mix of contemporary designed dwellings ranging from apartments to architecturally designed townhouses and resort style community facilities.

Villaworld Homes engaged Orion as the Principal Surveyor for the project. The team completed Detail and Service Location Survey to assist with engineering design. Orion has also provided titling advice for the staging of the development and disclosure plans for sales contracts.

With the project currently under construction, Orion has undertaken building construction setout, as-constructed surveys and subsequent site surveys via Aerial Surveys to determine volumes during bulk earthworks.

Orion is also undertaking the cadastral surveys to title the residential units within the existing Community Title Scheme. As construction nears completion, Orion will prepare and manage the plan sealing application for development compliance with City of Gold Coast Council.

Redbank Motorway Estate is a large-scale multi-stage industrial development. It is one of South-East Queensland’s leading Industrial Developments and strategically sits close to three major motorway exchanges, providing easy access to major infrastructure.

Goodman Limited engaged Orion Spatial Solutions as the Principal Surveyor for the project. Orion has provided a range of services and solutions for the project through the design, construction and development phases.

For the design phase, Orion conducted a Site Detail Survey utilising traditional survey and Airborne LiDAR technology. We also completed extensive Underground Service Location, providing certainty of service location to assist design consultants.

The site has exchange access with a bordering motorway which required design consideration for future needs. Orion utilised our Mobile LiDAR technology to capture motorway on and off ramp survey data to assist with design. This technology creates a more comprehensive survey than traditional methods, capturing a higher density of data. Our Mobile LiDAR platforms minimise surveyors working on the road, providing a safer work environment and reduces the requirement for traffic management and minimises disruption to traffic flow. Mobile LiDAR is a very cost-effective survey solution, allowing us to survey distances quickly.

The project involved design of stormwater outlets into the Brisbane River, which adjoins the site. Orion undertook Bathymetric Survey of the riverbed to assist engineering design of the stormwater system.

During the construction phase, Orion provided Engineering Services to the Building and Civil Contractors covering building and civil setout, survey control survey and as-constructed surveys. Orion also undertook Volume Surveys at various stages of construction to accurately quantify bulk earthworks claims for the client. We utilised our Aerial LiDAR and UAV technology to complete these surveys to minimise disruption to site work, capture the data quickly and minimise interaction between surveyors and working machinery.

Orion also provided titling advice for the staging of the development, assisted with obtaining development approvals and prepared Reconfiguration of Lot layouts. We also consulted with Government Agencies to obtain Road Closure and Opening approvals which was vital to the timing and viability of the project.

As Principal Surveyor, Orion also undertook Cadastral Surveys for the project, preparing plans of subdivision to Department of Resources requirements.

Orion was also responsible for development compliance at the completion of each stage, preparing and managing plan sealing applications with Ipswich City Council.
